The Icy Raid is a External Raid Enclosure Solution from Icy Dock, capable of Raid 0, Raid 1, JBOD and Big modes trough hardware Raid and with a USB 3.0 connection.
The built quality is great as its made of a brushed aluminum enclosure all around. The only plastic found is on the front bay doors as the back is also made of white metal.
It takes up to two 3,5 inch hard drives and at the back we will find:
– 40 mm fan with a fan speed controller
– Raid Switch
– USB 3.0 Port
– Reset Switch
– Led Light Switch
– Power Input Jack
– On / OFF Switch
– Kesington Lock
At the Bottom 4 rubber feet that will avoid HDD vibrations.
In terms of speed tests we can expect (depends on the drives used):
– Raid 1 – 165 MB/s on Writes and 185 MB/s on Reads
– JBOD and BIG – 180 MB/s both on Writes and Reads
– Raid 0 – 240 MB/s on Writes and 350 MB/s on Reads
The fan is silent and we will not hear it. Have in mind that the drives are spinning drives so those we will hear while in use, and for those that are used to HDD´s you know the noise that they make. To hear the fan i had to shutdown every single component on my office and i could barely hear it.
